Auditive means of transport for tender to hard strokes and touches. This engine obeys the pressure of mankind in tranceish singing and naivity. A trip with a humming thorax completely without kerosene.

Either discoveries of the 60Hz waves, or the desire gain by fun & play with technology, a ride on the "sensible engine" will transmute your actual state. This installation works with pressure sensors, whose signals a computer evaluates and converts into audible feedback. The circular allocation of the sensors around the hull extends the possibility to gesticulate with your applied pressure. Gestures like a "wipe" over the cylinder are audtiv converted and make different sounds than just a punctual touch. Also tenderness and violence are interpreted differently.

The "sensible engine" in Steinhof:
In context of the "Kirisits/Filip Workshops 05/06" to therapycenter Baumgarten in vienna, the installation met people with cognitive distortions. The inhabits of the psychatric department reacted very differently, if nevertheless generally very positively on the mechanism. e.g. the tender twitter of the turbine elicted a spontaneous smile of one female patient with heavy depressions, only fewer minutes after an everyday howling attack. A further female patient got inspired to massively force employment; so much that she was hardly to be separated from it, because of her tight and heavy hugging.
The soundification of direct physicalness got much appreciation upon patients, which are no more able to communicate their emotions via language.

The "sensible engine" at the ESSENCE 2006 in MAK (Museum of Applied Arts Vienna):

The turbine was issued one month, at the annual exhibition of the university of applied arts.

"sensible engine" 2006
it all started with 3D shapes
the "engine" at modelling
cut through and final version for the inner hull
prototyping the sound installation hardware
sensor array - mac mini - speakers & the test-lap
turbine-hull
made of XPS rings

 rings of XPS
cut with a selfmade styro-cutter
one of 12 elements after raw cut
rings glued together and grinded in organic shape
look through, notice the sections
scraped with compound
grind - scrape - grind - scrape
shapeing the "nozzle" was hard work
trying to assembly the prototype for a first test
the sensors worked
the stability of the outter ring was rather critical tho
sticky tape does it
soft doorstop knobs are the perfect grounding for the sensors
the sprayshop
unhealthy times
sprayed like 6 times
applying finisher
rather finished body
a 30lb concrete bottom for standing stability
concrete mixed with demolition rumble
ready to mount the sensors
finished and standin in the art gallery
"sensible engine"
6 pressure sensors and turbine engine acustics
you see the sensors on the doorstops
clamped nuder acrylic glass
